Mean Annual Increment
:
the average annual increase in volume of individualtrees or stands up to the specified point in time. The MAI changes with different growthphases in a tree's life, being highest in the middle years and then slowly decreasing withage. The point at which the MAI peaks is commonly used to identify the biologicalmaturity of the stand and its readiness for harvesting. [Ministry of Forests -- Government of British Columbia]
