DNAse - Abbreviation for deoxyribonuclease. Any enzyme that catalyses the cleavage of DNA phosphodiester bonds. DNAse I is a digestive endonuclease secreted by the pancreas, that degrades DNA into shorter fragments. Many other endonucleases and exonucleases are involved in DNA repair and replication.
