Lebanon's mountainous terrain limits transportation between
different parts of the country. Transportation has also been
limited by warfare in the 1970s and 1980s; by militia control of
key ports, highways, and access points; by the destruction of the
country's former railroad network; and by the near-destruction of
its aviation links with the rest of the world.
