Countries Appendix BHUTAN (58.6%) Bhutan is still a largely undeveloped, non-industrialized country that depends much on subsistence farming, livestock grazing, and forestry. Although, Bhutan has low population pressures, a population that respects the environment, and a government which has established environmental planning, the population is growing and the forests are facing growing threats from fuelwood collection, cutting for building materials, road-building, subsistence agriculture, and livestock grazing. In addition, Bhutan's extensive forest cover may soon by exploited by foreign timber companies. . . . . . For current information I highly recommend trying the CIA and FAO links below. |
