Saving What Remains Are Forest Fragments Worth Saving? While forest fragments may have significantly less diversity than the original contiguous forest, they still house a considerable variety of species that would otherwise not persist. These forest patches might be enough to support unique species like the Gold Lion Tamarin which today survives in the remnant fragments of Brazil's Atlantic forest. In other words, these patches enhance the diversity of the landscape and are worth preserving.
