Recently the cosmetics company, Areda, began using Bixa, supplied directly by Yawana Indians in Brazil, in their products. In exchange for receiving a steady supply of Bixa, Areda provided the Yawana with solar technology that brought electricity to their villages and helped the Indians turn deforested lands into productive Bixa plantations. |
